KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL DIGITAL CONTENT PROMOTION

#9: LOCAL PRESS OUTREACH

Reaching out to local press with a newsworthy pitch is a compelling way to promote digital content services to patrons. Regional publications, newspapers, and news stations cover local events, and will often lead with the launch of a new service or winner of a library contest. It’s important to have concrete news as part of your local press outreach for it to receive coverage.

IDEAS FOR LOCAL PRESS OUTREACH:

  • Make sure it’s newsworthy—lead with the launch of a service or winner of a contest.
  • Plan to do press outreach once every quarter.
  • Invite press to an event hosted by your library.
  • When pitching, reach out to the press via email and a phone call with your news.

“The most effective key was when we started RBdigital and had launch events, and we were covered in the newspaper and television stations.”—Survey Respondent

Recorded Books has customizable press release templates for each digital service available for download from the website. A library can customize the press release template to include the library name, URL, quotes, content available in its collection, and other library-specific details.
