[DEBUT] Surviving a werewolf attack leads Agent Cooper Dayton to the Bureau of Special Investigations and an assignment to work with Agent Oliver Park, a member of the Trust, a werewolf oversight committee. Dayton and Park are charged with probing mysterious deaths in Florence, ME, a small town near Portland. Elements of small-town life, including the proliferation of roadside motels and limited restaurant choices, all play into the tightly knit population, with good old pups infiltrating the business and police communities. Professional and romantic tensions keep Dayton and Park on edge throughout, while the White Mountain National Forest offers a perfect setting for the crimes.

Flockton, Nicole & Abigail Owen. White Knight. Crimson Romance: S. & S. Jan. 2018. 188p. ebk. ISBN 9781507207956. $4.99. FANTASY ROMANCE

Sasha White, the immortal daughter of Merlin, also known as Snow White, is working as a gem cutter at a firm owned by seven partners of short stature. She is there because she wants to destroy the “immortality stone” and gain release from her endless, unfulfilling life. Derek Arthur is hired by the firm as a security consultant because someone is trying to steal said stone; when he finds out it is Sasha, sparks begin to fly. Derek and Sasha are then attacked by the forces of the wicked Morgan Le Fay, and Derek discovers that he has magical powers. As more clues fall into place, Sasha and Derek begin to realize they are fated for each other: Derek is King Arthur reborn, and he has known Sasha in multiple previous existences. After the pair consummate their attraction, Morgan uses her evil wiles to put Sasha into a paralytic state. Will Derek be able to save her? Will they live happily ever after?

Verdict This novel from Flockton (Sweet Texas Fire) and Owen (Sarai’s Fortune) cleverly integrates the King Arthur and Snow White tales, blending the Knights of the Round Table with Snow White’s seven companions. Overtly safe yet compelling sex, witty dialog, and paranormal action make this a winner.—Henry Bankhead, San Rafael P.L., CA
