Edwards, Leigh Ann. A Witch’s Quest. Tule. (Irish Witch, Bk. 6). Mar. 2018. 352p. ebk. ISBN 9781948342513. $3.99. HISTORICAL ROMANCE

There is no end to the troubles that seem to follow Alainn O’Brien as she struggles to prove her worth to the gods. Trapped in England, she must figure out how to get everyone back to Ireland without giving in to King Henry VIII’s desire or letting him know her connection to the Irishman in his tower. Even after escape, there is much to do back home. A sickness is creeping across Ireland, and it needs Alainn to lead the healing with her protector Danhoul. Through it all, the demon, his coven of witches, and other supernatural beings do their best to disturb even the best-laid plans.

Verdict While this episode of the saga undoubtedly will appeal to fans of the series (A Witch’s Life), it feels like a travelog of the time period, with little payoff for new readers.—Emily Thompson, Univ. of Tennessee at Chattanooga Lib.

COURTING THE NANNY Lincoln, Liz. On the Line. Loveswept: Random. (Milwaukee Dragons, Bk. 1). Apr. 2018. 224p. ebk. ISBN 9780525619826. $4.99. CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

When Carrie Herron—recently laid-off science teacher—and Seth Chamberlain—newest starter for the Milwaukee Dragons football team—meet in a grocery store, sparks fly and numbers are exchanged. Even if her love life is looking up, Carrie’s professional life is at rock bottom. Her brother may have just the thing to solve her unemployment crisis: his friend is looking for a live-in nanny for his daughter. Not ideal, but Carrie is up for anything—except for Seth being the frantic dad. Both Carrie and Seth are desperate for the job to work out, though, and know they need to put the brakes on the heat between them. Still, sparks tend to fly in close spaces, and neither can seem to put the other out of their mind.

Verdict This first title in a new series from Lincoln (Dirty Work) sets up both the team and a few key players sure to come up in future stories. Carrie and Seth are a steamy couple, and their attraction is both hot and adorable. Lincoln’s writing is engaging; readers who love sports-based romances will enjoy this newest entry.—Kellie Tilton, Univ. of Cincinnati Blue Ash

Meader, Kate. Hooked on You. Pocket Star. (Chicago Rebels, Bk. 4). May 2018. 384p. ebk. ISBN 9781501168574. $5.99. CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

Bren St. James, captain of the Chicago Rebels hockey team, is on a mission. If he wants to keep his daughters, he has to sober up and steer clear of temptation. Of course, that temptation includes Violet Vasquez, his sexy, free-spirited new nanny, who is also co-owner of the Rebels along with her half-sisters. Violet’s recent cancer scare has made her want to live life to the fullest, and she has her sights set on seducing her hot Scottish employer/employee. Though she’s determined to keep her emotions in check, Violet can’t help falling for gruff, troubled Bren as she grows closer to him and his children. Couples from the other installments in Meader’s “Chicago Rebels” books (Irresistible You; So over You; Undone by You) play supporting roles here, but the book can be read as a stand-alone.

Verdict An emotion-driven romance that burns with plenty of heat. Readers will enjoy the family dynamics of the band-of-brothers hockey team and the women they adore.—Kathryn Howe, Saint John Free P.L., NB
