George F. Coe named President and CEO of Brodart Co.; Gayle Hunter Holloman approved as Executive Director of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System; Kathelene McCarty Smith appointed Interim Head of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives; and more library people news.

George F. Coe head shotLibrary services vendor Brodart Co. announced on January 15 that George F. Coe has been named President and CEO. Most recently, Coe served as Interim President and CEO of Better World Books; he also spent 17 years at Baker & Taylor, where he served as CEO and President. Following the sale of Baker & Taylor to Follett Corporation in 2016, Coe served as Group President of Baker & Taylor and Follett School Solutions.

Gayle Hunter Holloman was approved as Executive Director of the 34-branch Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System (AFPL) by the Fulton County commissioners on January 8. She replaces former Director Gabriel Morley, who left to lead the New Orleans Public Library. Holloman, who has been with AFPL since 1994, most recently served as the Library Division Manager.

Stephen Houser, Director of Twin Lakes Library System, Milledgeville, GA, since 2014, has been named Georgia Public Librarian of the Year.

Priya Rathnam, currently the Assistant Library Director at Shrewsbury Public Library, MA, since 2013, will replace retiring Director Ellen Dolan in early April.

Kathelene McCarty Smith head shotKathelene McCarty Smith has been appointed Interim Head of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives following the departure of Keith Gorman in 2019. Smith is an Assistant Professor in University Libraries and previously served as Instruction and Outreach Archivist.

New York University (NYU) has announced two new hires: Shawn(ta) Smith-Cruz has been appointed Associate Dean for Teaching, Learning, and Engagement, effective February 18; Smith-Cruz was previously Assistant Professor and Head of Reference at the Graduate Center Library of the City University of New York. Scott Collard has been appointed Associate Dean for Research and Research Services as of January 13; Collard was previously Social Sciences Collections Coordinator at NYU.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill University Libraries has appointed of Rustin Zarkar, previously a Course Instructor at New York University, as Middle East and Islamic Studies Librarian as of January 6.
