This is Netflix's Travelers series meshed with Jeff Vandermeer's "Southern Reach" trilogy, and it's outstanding.


Reynolds (Slow Bullets) has sketched in a galaxy littered with the relics of former civilizations (human and alien), with plenty left to the reader's imagination, and room for a sequel. The space slang (air is "lungstuff") sometimes seems hokey, but the author marries pirate adventures with a coming-of-age story in a way that should give it great crossover appeal for teens.

Elysium Fire

In this follow-up to The Prefect, Reynolds has created a vivid universe with beautiful settings and engaging, dynamic characters. There are instances of violence but nothing too graphic, making this appropriate for young adults. Fans of sf will definitely want to pick up this title, especially if they also enjoy mysteries or police procedurals.

Poseidon's Wake

While Ndege Akinya remains under house arrest, her daughter, Goma, joins a mission to track the source of a message sent across the galaxies in this final installment (after On the Steel Breeze) of Reynolds's hard sf epic featuring the Akinya clan...
