Book Report 2001: The Budget Shifts
Since
LJ launched its book-buying survey of
public libraries in 1998, the news has always been cautiously optimistic. True,
circulation dipped somewhat among libraries surveyed in 2000. But many
librarians reasoned that in the electronic age, with patrons old and new using
libraries as a way to launch themselves into cyberspace, circulation was no
longer the primary measure of a library's worth.
