-- Library Journal, 01/20/2006

The city library in Stockholm, Sweden plans to place library book dispensers—essentially vending machines for free—to encourage commuters on the city's underground rail system to read. The test will begin at three stations, according to Svenska Dagbladet via Ananova.com, with up to 700 titles available. Library spokesman Martin Hafström said, "We want to expand interest both in reading and in literature in general. I think that this is an interesting experiment, since Stockholm has the country's biggest public transport network."
