Maine Library Association Tries Underwriting Local Public Radio Show
-- Library Journal, 06/01/2007
Given its goal of raising the profile of libraries in the state, the Maine Library Association (MLA) has begun a 13-week trial effort to underwriting a radio show on the Maine Public Broadcasting Network (MBPN). Every Tuesday, during "The World," a production of Public Radio International, listeners hear the following "This program is brought to you in part by the Maine Library Association; encouraging Mainers to use and support their local library–a place of lifelong learning." (Listen to the MP3.)
Rich Boulet, MLA VP/president-elect, told LJ the idea was his, "that we might reach both our membership, and more importantly, the general public via MPBN, which broadcasts to nearly every corner of the state." Added MLA president Nikki Maounis, "Our point was not necessarily to underwrite a radio program, but to disperse our message to the largest possible audience while supporting a worthwhile organization." The amount MLA is spending, for now, remains confidential.
