Coverage broadly encompasses trends in and affecting public and academic libraries: funding, policy, operations, technology, and management, as well as cornerstone issues such as access, copyright, intellectual freedom, and privacy. Editor will develop contacts with library leaders and librarians, organizational heads, vendors, distributors, and others in the library world and be a face of LJ at conferences and on panels. Editor will be expected to work collegially with and help edit colleagues' work, as well as foster a stable of freelancers. Position requires skilled, careful reporting and swift writing, understanding of libraries and the forces that impact them, and embrace of social networking and other communication technologies. Five years of substantial newspaper or magazine reporting required with print and/or online clips that show range of work, including deadline reporting, news analysis, feature coverage, survey-based reports, blog posts, etc. Familiarity with libraries highly desirable, MLS helpful.
