New York’s Lectorum Bookstore at Risk
Just a few years shy of its 50th anniversary in the Spanish-language book business, Librería Lectorum may soon disappear from its 14th Street location in New York City. Senel Paz's Return to Literature
Senel Paz established himself as one of the most promising screenwriters on the Caribbean island thanks to the success of his movie Fresa y chocolate ("Strawberry and Chocolate," 1993), directed by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea. Marjorie Agosín—Connecting Through Poetry |
Good poetry can slant the sunlight in such a way that you see the spider web between branches, spotlighting what was otherwise invisible. Marjorie Agosín does exactly this through her poetry, highlighting the interconnectedness of all people. A prolific writer perhaps unaware of the feat she has accomplished by publishing over 30 books by age 50, she says, "Writing and living are inseparable to me." Add to this the fact that she teaches Spanish language and literature at Wellesley College and is a renowned human rights activist, and her writing accomplishments are little less than a miracle.
