Report Dubbs UCLA Taser Incident "Excessive" An independent report, not surprisingly, found that the UCLA 2006 Taser incident, in which a student was zapped repeatedly by campus security like a bug in a butcher shop, was an "unnecessary, avoidable, and excessive" use of force.
Neil Gaiman Is a Camera-Shy Graphics Guy With the August 10 debut of Stardust, the first big feature film adaptation of his work, and two other Hollywood projects underway, graphic novel god Neil Gaiman told Time magazine, "I'm now more famous than I'm comfortable with" (just think about the money, Neil).

Rush Hour 1, 2, 3: Lights, Camera, Action! Ratner, Brett.
Newmarket. 2007.192p. illus.
ISBN 978-1-55704-783-0. pap. $19.95. Film
The unlikely combination of loud-mouth comic Chris Tucker and chop-socky stunt master Jackie Chan in director Brett Ratner's 1998 action buddy film Rush Hour proved remarkably appealing, generating enough box office bang to warrant two sequels, with Rush Hour 3 premiering August 10. Each actor no doubt brought his own audience that wouldn't necessarily be attracted to the other's films, and the scripts are tailored to the stars' strengths—Tucker explodes on screen as the in-your-face comic relief to Chan's straight man of action. With Chan a superstar in China, the series also has been dubbed in Mandarin and Cantonese, adding to the substantial profits. Ratner here looks back at the production of 1 and 2 and previews the third
installment. The text is fairly brief, limited mostly to an introduction and actor profiles plus numerous captions for the more than 370 photos and illustrations—a combination of screen grabs, publicity stills, behind-the-scenes shots, and storyboard and concept art. This is more a scrapbook for these films than a hardcore "making of" volume; the series' fans—and apparently there are lots of them—will enjoy. —Mike Rogers, LJ/LJX
