Born in Havana, De Aragón— journalist, poet, essayist, narrator, and college professor—came to the United States in 1960 when she was 15 years old. In Morir de exilio ("Death by Exile") de Aragón compiles a series of articles she publishedalong four decades in Miami's newspaper Diario de las Américas. The articles are tributes to an array of writers, historians, musicians, painters, and political activists who died far away from their native land. De Aragón spoke to Críticas about her desire for Morir de exilio to play a role in the recognition of the cultural contribution of Cuban exiles.
