"A true force of nature." That's how the Nicaraguan-born novelist, poet, and activist Gioconda Belli (b. 1948) was described by her U.S. agent when asked about her client's essence. Belli's name was internationally recognized for her daring poetry and fiction, but the U.S. release of her revealing memoir, El país bajo mi piel (The Country Under My Skin), put her on the map as one of the most exciting writers in the country. Belli's new work of fiction, El pergamino de la seducción (The Scroll of Seduction), is a historical novel with erotic hints inspired by the misunderstood passion of Spain's Queen Juana of Castille. The novel was a best seller in Spain.
