I come across true independent films weekly that are both dynamic and original yet take a backseat to so-called indies which are nothing more than profit-making 'commercials' with big names attached hiding under the indie label. Jamin Winan's Ink for one. Up and comer Kirt Gunn penned one called Lovely by Surprise which is great. Another upstart Logan Lynch wrote Ice Cream Alone and the list goes on. Lets hope true indies begin to see the light of day.

Instead of actor's pet projects, I think that you are seeing director's pet projects becoming the face of credible indies. Whether it's Jackson's District 9 or Boyle's Slumdog, their names add the credibility necessary with studios and filmgoers for success.

I really don't know where Mr. Bart gets his box office results, but here some of those "hard to find" indie pics (in no particular order): District 9, Inglorious Basterds, Capitalism A Love Story...
