  • Oscar winners slated for DVD
    Best Picture standout No Country for Old Men (pictured) leads a large batch of Oscar-winning films soon headed to DVD and/or are already available at retail.

    Streeting on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on March 11, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s No Country boasts four Oscar trophies, representing the largest award haul of any of Sunday night’s contenders.

    Movie fans also will be able to soon catch from the comfort of home the Oscar-winning lead acting performance of Daniel Day-Lewis in Paramount Home Entertainment’s April 8 release There Will Be Blood.

    Atonement, singled out for best original score, streets on DVD and HD DVD on March 18 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. more » » »

  • Word the thing for Walden Media
    Walden Media has a special gift for making family films that entertain audiences while delivering more substantive messages at the same time.

    Company co-founder and president Michael Flaherty says that Walden’s success in reaching beyond mainstream movie-goers to Christian viewers is no secret, just the product of simple outreach. Walden includes pastors among the parents, teachers and librarians the company talks to when developing film ideas, “even if it’s a faith-neutral project,” he says.

    The next book-based DVD coming from Walden will be The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (Sony, pictured), due April 8. And Walden has a sister division, Bristol Bay, that makes films that appeal to older audiences, such as Amazing Grace (Fox). more » » »

  • 11th Hour priced to get message out
    The Leonardo DiCaprio-produced climate change documentary The 11th Hour (prebook March 4, street: April 8) will be priced at $4.98 to encourage purchase and more effectively promote the film's message of grassroots involvement in environmental causes.

    The 11th Hour, which features interviews with personalities including Mikhail Gorbachev, Stephen Hawking and former CIA chief R. James Woolsey, is narrated by DiCaprio. An additional hour of content explores ways viewers can help preserve the planet. more » » »

  • Lionsgate delivers romance with Harlequin titles
    Lionsgate is wooing mothers with romance. On April 29, the studio is releasing two volumes of movies from the Harlequin line.

    Each Harlequin Triple Feature set contains three discs and is priced at $14.98.
