Zines by People of Color By Celia C. Perez - 11/05/2009
It isn't a secret that there aren't many zines by people of color. By virtue of their underground history and connection to the subculture of punk, zines tend to fall outside the radar of the average person, and this is even more the case for populations that have little presence in punk. The zines reviewed here are all by people of color. Each sheds light on their universal struggles, as well as the individual problems and joys in their lives.

Zines from the LJ Mailbag Edited by Jenna Freedman - 09/02/2009
An integral part of zine culture is letter writing, so it seems especially appropriate to devote one zine reviews column to zines sent to us in the mail, usually accompanied by a short, handwritten note. Culled from submissions we received, these seven titles run the gamut from perzine to review zine to minicomics. If you like anything you see reviewed here, please order it, and when you do, tell them Library Journal says "Hi."

Woodworking and metalworking magazines are particularly well suited for library collections because their articles on techniques and project plans have long-term value and the specialty suppliers' ads and event announcements are of current interest. More so than with most popular magazines, a subscription not only satisfies current needs but also accrues benefits to patrons for years to come.
