The New York Public Library (NYPL) has picked British architect Norman Foster, known for his firm's work on the world's largest airport terminal in Beijing and the Great Court at London's British Museum, to transform the iconic 1911 building at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street from a research library into a hybrid that will be the world's largest comprehensive library open to the public.

In Iowa, from Carnegie to LEED By Rita Ormsby - 11/15/2008
The first public library in Iowa to seek Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is nearing completion in Marshalltown, a county seat of 26,000 people about 50 miles northeast of Des Moines. The current Marshalltown Public Library, a five-level Carnegie structure, was built in 1902 and expanded in 1974.
