Magazines Move Online and Print Welcomes Zine Reviews
February 4, 2008
I was going to blog on an article in the most recent Bitch magazine on librarian Shinjoung Yeo as segue into telling you all about our new coverage of zines and improved format for magazine reviews. Unfortunately, my
roommate's copy (which I sometimes filch) has been buried and lost forever under piles of New York Times, New York magazines, and the occasional Vogue. Reading material is the only thing messy about my living room, save dust bunnies.
But, I'll point you to Jenna Freedman's post on it on the Radical Reference site. Jenna, Barnard Zine Librarian, zinester, and editor for the forthcoming LJ zines column, gets a shout-out in the article, too.
Here's the deal. Look for zine reviews in the March 1, May 1, September 1, and November 1 issues. For a taste of zine librarianship for the uninitiated, visit "Your Zine Tool Kit, A DIY Collection."
The magazine reviews column will move online beginning March 1, on an easier-to-use web page that will host reviews for an entire season (about 4 months) and will be updated monthly with reviews from our new columnist, Steve Black, Reference, Instruction, and Serials Librarian at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY; author of Serials in Libraries; and writer and host of "Periodical Radio." We'll have additional magazine coverage in the July and January issues, as well.
