First Look: The Art and Making of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
June 25, 2008

Like with the Steve Ditko book from last week, here’s a head’s up for a kickass new book that just came in. The release date isn’t until August, but you can see samples here first. It’s a gaming book called The Art and Making of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed by W. Haden Blackman and Brett Rector (Insight Editions, ISBN 978-1-933784-25-0, $29.95.). Blackman is the project leader of the team that created The Force Unleashed game as well as the author of the graphic novel tie-in. Rector is a LucasArts assistant producer and former editor-in-chief of the Star Wars Insider mag and other related publications.
The book is printed on Carbon Neutral paper, so I guess that means it's green. It also comes with Character Cards of the major players in small envelopes attached to the pages (a library's nightmare, I know).

The text gives in-depth background on how the game and the characters were created, etc. Just fabulous stuff. The central “plot” follow’s Vader’s scheme to hunt down still surviving Jedi and root out and crush conspirators in the Senate. There are lots of cool new characters, including Vader’s secret apprentice—a serious badass with a saber! The real grabber here is the more than 300 pieces of artwork, which is smoking hot. Here’s an LJ exclusive preview (I shot these pix in my office holding the book on my lap, so forgive the quality).

Star Wars fans whether they're gamers or not are going to want this, so buy a couple.
