The Library Lives in Persepolis

April 16, 2008

It was with ample pleasure that I recently reread Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis and Persepolis 2 in a new combined paperback (the first volume was an LJ Best Book of 2003; the second got the same kudos in 2004).

I was waiting for a library mention to pop up—this is very much a work about freedom of self-expression, after all, and books foster ideas—when just before the story's close, there it is, a panel featuring the author's cartoon self and cartoon ex-husband browsing books for their art college thesis on Persian mythology.

So there you have it: Libraries live in graphic novels! Now if only I could get a still of Lisa Simpson in the Springfield library.
