Romance: E-Ink Inroads

March 24, 2009

Library Journal’s enterprising and educationally minded romance columnist, Kristin Ramsdell, reference librarian from California State University, East Bay, has her finger on the pulse of her pRomance readersreferred genre. Here’s a tidbit she sent in, acknowledging that romance is popular among readers with “e” on their mind.

"Surprising to some but not to tech-savvy romance fans, Fictionwise, a major ebook retailer with total 2008 U.S. sales of at least $100M that was recently acquired by Barnes & Noble, has just acknowledged that 50 percent of its sales are romances (Wall Street Journal, 3/6/09). Granted, the vast majority of romances are still sold in print; however, with improving ebook technology, new methods of delivery on the horizon, and the growing availability of the genre in digital format, this is likely a harbinger of things to come."

How do you take your romance? Cover to cover? Or over E-asy? Let us know.

I need cover to cover.
E-books don't work with a nice, hot bubble bath.

I take my romance however I can get it- over E-asy, cover to cover, or through my ear buds. All joking aside, I'm finding myself reading cover to cover less.

I'm very excited about Harlequin's proactive approach to ebooks. For several years now, they have their complete frontlist coming out in print and ebook simultaneously.
Also I've noticed that on amazon, my best sales are now the Kindle editions.
I don't mind how my readers want to read my book as long as they read them!
