Mine, a Customized Mag from Time

March 19, 2009

Time Inc. is now offering a limited number of free five-issue subscriptions to a customized magazine called Mine, featuring content from five magazines you choose from a list of eight. This experiment has one sponsor, Mine magazineLexus, which will include ads tailor-made to subscribers based on five simple questions (like, Do you crave pizza or sushi?).

Those without computers can cash in on the free information Internet users are so used to by signing up at the library. Libraries may also want to consider displaying or pointing out the eight magazines—Time, Sports Illustrated, Food & Wine, Real Simple, Money, In Style, Golf, and Travel + Leisure—to help patrons tailor their Mine.

From a quick search of Twitter, opinions on it seem positive—and most are more excited about the printed prospect, which goes to the first 31,000 respondents, than the digital edition for the next 200,000—although some wish for more choices than the eight magazines. There's also lots of pointing to a Fast Company blog calling Mine a "printed RSS feed."
