Free EBSCO Research Starters
October 6, 2008

EBSCO tells me they can’t give me any “freebie trials” of their products for the blog; instead they pointed me to a couple of Research Starters at their web site (I know, it’s not as good as free trials to the real databases, but what’s a blogger to do? Hie me hence to the EBSCO offices in Ipswich, and throw myself on their mercies? Hmmm. Ipswich is not so very far away…).

EBSCO Research Starters, AKA Academic Topic Overviews, typically include Abstracts, Keyword Lists, Topic Overviews, Further Insights/Applications, Viewpoints/Issues/Discourse, A Glossary of Terms & Concepts, Bibliographies, and Suggested Reading Lists about a given subject. To get a firsthand look at some, here are the Research Starters EBSCO is offering this year:

B2B Business Models
The Use of Web 2.0 in Business

Student Internships
Universal Design for Learning

Meanwhile, I’ll check back periodically to ask them for free trial access to their products through this blog – if you folks would like to have it, that is.

More as it happens, with a free trial available at the end of the rainbow,
Cheryl

They can't provide you with free trials for the blog? Are they crazy? They can do whatever they please. And I think that they'd be crazy not to provide access to one of the leading database reviewers no matter where she's publishing. But if they want to cut off their nose to spite their face it's up to them.

Thanks for the feedback, Cathy. I'm going to keep trying to get free trials from them periodically, but hearing from readers will give me extra motivation! Cheryl
