EBSCO Waiting Room Magazine Subscriptions
June 25, 2008

Waiting room for passengers at Udon Thani International Airport, Thailand, sans magazinesTime for true confessions: until today I had no idea this was an actual service – I’ve just wished for it. I’m so tired of having to read old copies of the Journal of Internal Medicine, Gun World, or Bloomberg Markets as I wait to see a doctor/vet/specialist – who knew they could all be subscribing to this EBSCO service, saving “up to 88% when ordering waiting room magazines at the lowest publisher authorized prices”?

The list of their Top Ten sellers is just what I’d like to get my hands on in a waiting room, too: Better Homes and Gardens, Consumer Reports, Good Housekeeping, National Geographic, Newsweek, People, Southern Living, Sports Illustrated, Time, and Us Weekly (I go to my dentist because he is an excellent dentist – I especially like the fact that he does a Three Stooges maneuver with my cheek whenever I get novocaine to distract me from the needle – but it doesn’t hurt that his office waiting room stocks recent copies of People. I make a point of getting to my dental appointments early).

I must spread the news. Did you know about this? And you didn’t tell me?

More as it happens amidst my reception room naïveté,

Cheryl

And did you know how EBSCO began? Its founder-to-be, Elton B. Stephens (EBS Co -- get it?) was selling magazines door-to-door, then expanded to also sell display racks & binders for them... and an industry giant was born. The company's history is really quite fascinating.

Good gads, I had never heard that! Now, about EBSCO's future... any news in the offing? New files? I am all ears! Thanks!
