Code4Lib 2009 Proposals Ready for VotingNovember 24, 2008 Forty talk proposals have been submitted for Code4Lib 2009, and voting will soon be open to anyone registered at the Code4Lib web site. This remains the only conference of which I am familiar that forms the conference program by popular vote. It will be held in Providence, Rhode Island the last week of February. It once again promises to be THE library techie conference to attend below the Canadian border (above the border we have Access). Current plans are to begin presentation voting this week and open registration the week of December 8th. If last year is any guide, mark your calendar, slots will go fast. I realize the economic downturn has frozen some travel budgets, but I still think the conference will sell out. Prepared talk proposals that have been submitted include presentations on the Open Library Environment, Blacklight, VUFind, djatoka, the eXtensible Catalog project, FreeCite, XForms, LibX, Jangle, Lucene, Omeka, Solr, linked data, accessibility, and FRBR, among other things. If it sounds like I'm name-dropping, I am. If you've never heard of more than half of these this may not be your conference. But if you're a definite techie with serious code chops, then come on down. Whatever your background and experience, keep in mind that no one will dumbing anything down. This is not ALA. Attendees will be expected to be able to deal with technical presentations, talk with some knowledge about the use of technology in their own institutions, and be prepared to have a good time. If this sounds like you, then I hope to see you in Providence. Posted by Roy Tennant on November 24, 2008 | Comments (0)
