The Library Director Blogs, With Avatar
April 24, 2008

It's not new for library directors to use a blog to communicate with their constituencies, but Mary Anne Hodel, director of Orange County Library System, Orlando, FL, has taken it a step further. Her monthly blog, Library Leader, features not just a (blinking) avatar that looks like her, but also her voice, welcoming visitors to the library and the blog. Hodel has been sharing valuable information, but--perhaps because of the infrequent updates--the blog hasn't generated posted comments.

"The blog hasn't generated posted comments." No surprise there. Look at the blogs on this web site. There are several bloggers, but very few comments per blog. Blogging seems to be very popular with the younger crowd and with political junkies. Other than that, it seems to be very hit and miss.
