I was dismayed at the rude reaction attendees at past ALA conference gave to our current First Lady who has done much to promote reading, libraries, and literacy - a whole bunch more than her predecessor even thought about! I don't think Obama will do even half of the good that Laura Bush has done and may even drag us farther down - given his disastrous economic plan.

Laura Bush and the Bush NEA appointee, poet Dana Gioia have been great to libraries and reading, but Bush and McCain have/will continue to undermine and destroy our school systems and will further erode the economic base of our libraries. I don't belong to ALA for the very reaction you described at their conference, but please don't lump Obama in with a bunch of reactionaries.

BTW, my sister attended this event and there were thousands of people. Not a surprise at all that McCain pulled his staff out of Michigan after the event.
