Want To Ask the Presidential Candidates a Question?
|
||
| See LJ's complete Sarah Palin and Libraries coverage. |
Hoping to accent the the value of libraries, American Library Association President Jim Rettig is urging librarians and library advocates to submit questions for the October 7 Presidential debate between Senators Barack Obama and John McCain, which will be held at Belmont University, Nashville, TN. The debate, one of three, will be moderated by Tom Brokaw, who will both call on audience members and ask questions submitted online.
The Commission on Presidential Debates (historically a bit stuffy) has partnered with MySpace (historically not) on MyDebates, which is already live but will start accepting questions on September 25.
"The more questions submitted, the more likely a library question will be asked," Rettig observed.
That, of course, raises the question: what exactly should librarians be asking about? Funding? National Security Letters? GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin's record?

Senator Oboma, with your health care programe with the Senators & the House of rep. be covered under you plan or still have their elitist health care plan?
When you cluster US Troops in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Israel fires a missile to Iran, and Iran retaliates striking our US Troops in that proximity and region, will your run leaving Israel hanging, or stay in that proximity and region and fire back at Iran in retaliation?
I have a question for John McCain at the Presidential debae on October 7th. "Senator McCain, if you have voted alongside George Bush and his corrupt policies over 90% of the time please explain how do you plan to clean up the corrupt mess in Washington if you are a part of it? Is that not just another one of your political tactics and more corruption on your part? I am Angie Hylton and I approve of this message.
I am a 30 yr. old male with no stocks, bonds, or any investments and I make less than $75,000 annual salary. I also do not own a business, yet, several months ago I like many other Americans received a $400 check from the government directly into my bank account...no questions asked. Whether Democrat or Republican, IMO, nothing means more to me than IMMEDIATE cash in my pocket...can I expect the same under a future administration?

How do you feel about standardized testing in education? Is there to much emphasis on it or not?
I have experienced the effect of companies selling each other for profit at the expense of loosing lower position jobs. The companies make no effort to protect those jobs sighting that the people were no longer qualified for the position they had already been at for a year or more.(No training offered) What , if anything is going to be done to protect the "little guy" from corporate greed.
I am a disabled Vet looking at loosing my job simply because another company bought the one I work for. I still do the same work as before the buy out, but have been told that I am no longer qualified, even though I have been at that position for awhile. ( I've had to get new jobs 4 times in the last 8 or 9 years because of this) Why is corporate greed legal, and are either of you going to do something to protect the "small guy" for greedy corporate practices.
Instead of so much foreign aid to other countries, why don't we use that money to aid the many people here in our own country that needs it most? Charity should begin at home. It is nice to help others but we have too many people in this country who need it first.
To senator McCain and Obama: Is anything going to be done to protect job loss from companies that sell them selves to each other for profit? Greed and corruption is not just limited to Wall street. A lot of major corporations have followed suit in the greed market by dropping lower jobs for the bottom line. These same companies do nothing to offer training to keep experienced workers, but instead say that "It's the free market and that's the way it is.
John McCain, what would you do to get young people more involved in our country?
I've noticed during many occassions you have very easily lost your temper. How do we know you won't blow up while in an important meeting with a foreign dignitary?
What are planning to do about the situation in Georgia?
John McCain and Barack Obama, what are your plans to lower the price of gas?
Why is Obama taking away our guns?
John McCain, how did you come to realize that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would become a problem 3 years before this economic crisis happened?
How would both canidates respond if we were attacked by terrorist agian.
Senator Obama, We have been in Iraq for about 5 years, we have worked hard to get to the stand point we are at today, why are you so determined to give up the hard earned grains we have put such an effort towards in Iraq, what good was our effort.
barack Obama, are you going to take our weapons away from us?
Barack Obama, can you dunk a basketball? What are your plans for underprivaliged urbane youth?
Barrack Obama, Do you seriously intend on taking our troops out of Iraq after the 5 years we've been over there and all we've accomplished do you seriously think its fair to take the troops who have fought to take away all they have worked for if you do that then what good was the fighting.
Senator Obama, why do you want to wave the white flag in Iraq when victory is now in sight?
Senator McCain and Senator Obama, What is your plan for America's economic trouble? How does the financial crisis affect your furture spending plans?
Obama if you get the white house will you try and take my assault weapons? If so your gonna have a hard time.
Senator McCain and Senator Obama, If you were president, what would you do about gasoline problems? What i mean is, would you try to push other ideas on new ways to run our vehicles?
McCain ans Obama, If you become president would you do anything about the gas prices? Or would you make flying cars? O_O =D
senator obama, is it true that you are going to pull our troops from Iraq if you win presidency? my opinion is that i don't think we should do that, i think we would be making a huge mistake. i think we should wait it out, i mean were so close to the end why would we give up on everything now?
If you both had one wish, what would it be?
Senator McCain are you really going to keep the troops in iraq if you get to be president? I think that is a very good idea.
what can we do to more accepting of immigrants ?
For both Candidates, if your oponent wins how will you show you can cross party lines and support the new president to get this Country out of the mees it is in?
For both candidates. If elected, and should the economy be far from improved in 4 years, will your excuses elude to the fact that you inherited this mess and that it takes longer than one term to make any improvement?
Senator Obama, you are in support of free health care. And you plan on cutting taxes. How do you plan on making those two ends meet. And Also, have you ever been to Canada or another nation with free health care. What is the wait time like? I live and attend a Native American hospital, which is free to me. But the wait is unbearable at most times. What would you do to prevent major wait times?
With all the money woes currently going on, I was appalled to see an article in the paper today on how much each candidate has currently raised for their campaigns (over 456 million dollars). To see this kind of money raised and donated for political gain. I just don't see how people can donate money for political interests, when you don't see anything in return...or is that what we are all not seeing.
John McCain is getting advice and feedback from Henry Kissinger during his campaign. Henry Kissinger is a close friend of Hank Greenberg and has consulted for AIG. My question for John McCain is what affect might Henry Kissinger's associations with Hank Greenberg and AIG have on John McCain's recent dealings with the AIG loans and the government financial bailout package? Is not Henry Kissenger equivalent to a lobbyist in this circumstance?
Instead of giving so much money to foriegn governments why can't our government reinvest in the general US public
We keep talking about energy independence, but neither candidate talks about improving building codes. The majority of energy used in the world is used to condition (heat and cool) buildings. With the technology we have today, there is no reason to not demand better insulated buildings (greater thermal mass, living roofs) and more efficient heating and cooling systems like geothermal heat pumps. This is something that must happen through regulations, as builders look at short term profits in making buildings as cheap as possible and don’t look at long term cost or energy consumption. Taking action like this would free up money for current automotive fuels easing personal budgets while freeing up electricity for future electric vehicles.
As a technician working in customer service (the customer being the U.S. taxpayer) in an agency under the Department of Agriculture, I would like to know what "Cutting Government Spending" means. My experience is that cutting spending means reduced ability to serve the public, dirty or closed campgrounds; toilets, boating areas. Dangerous un-maintained motorized and non-motorized trails, you get the picture?? The statement to cut government spending is not good enough, be specific!
I am 25 and a single mother. And there is a serious issue with the government assistance. I make too much money for food stamps, but yet I don't make enough for my own home in a nice area. Here is my question, with all the people that abuse the system. And just are too lazy to bust there butt, to try and help themselves. How does either one of the candidates plan on fixing the welfare system, it is just being abused. Drug addicts don't have to work just go to classes everyday and the government supports them. That is just one example. Would like to know if anyone plans on fixing it.
What I would like to know, is what are you going to do for us? The people. The people that are working trying to make ends meet, but can't. The people that have gotten abused by lending companies and now owe so much money that they will never have the chance to own their own home. I think that all too often people are focusing on the big picture - helping get businesses back on their feet, but what about the people that make that business work? You can bail out the big businesses all you want, but if the middle and lower class families continue to struggle, then who is going to have money to keep the businesses running? In order to fix a big problem, you have to start small. Helping people get their credit squared away to be able to move on with their future and put more money in to the economy. Provide help for the families that want to work and make a difference but can't afford to feed their families because the cost of electricity, heat, gas and rent/mortgages are so high. In the winter my family has to put extra blankets on their beds, and extra layers of clothes on because we can't afford to have the furnace running. We eat what is on sale at the market, because we can't afford to have well balanced meals every day, yet we don't qualify for any government assistance. Our country is spending so much time and effort trying to help those that are less fortunate over seas and in other nations, but what are we doing to help our own people? In order to fix a big problem, you have to start at the bottom, at the root of the problem and work your way up. You have to start with the middle and lower class in order to keep the businesses growing. CEO's that are making millions of dollars in bonuses, should be done away with. I have no tolerance for selfish and greedy people as such. My family would be happy if we could simply have our own home, two working vehicles, health care, heat, and food in the cupboard. Not a house on every beach, fifteen cars that cost more than a house each, an outfit for every day... come on. We need to be realistic and in this time of a crisis and on the edge of a depression - we need to reevaluate. Every one should be given an equal opportunity to live and to have the essentials in life. What I want to know - is what are you going to do to avoid getting in to another grave depression and who do you care about?
When are you going to do something about Illegal Imigrants coming into this country and taking our social security??!!! I resently retired and can't collect for 7 years. I'd like what I paid in, to be given back to me! I EARNED IT!!
My question is why do you both canidates only talk about two classes of people.the rich class, the middle class.well what about the poor class there people to. before i vote i would like to no what you have to say on this.and what you are going to do to help them.
Will there be a limit on what we give to the other countries in need with money supply or will we just give them what they want?
I want to know when the canidates talk about the middle class people needing help, what about the people that make less than $30,000.00 a year. What kind of help will we get?
