Books on Tape Lowers Prices as Part of Revamp

Raya Kuzyk -- Library Journal, 3/2/2009

  • BOT lowers cost of titles, offers new category imprints
  • Redesigns web site, logo, packaging
  • Changes introduced today and rolling out through year

In a bid to gain a leg up in the competitive audiobook market, Books on Tape (BOT), a division of Random House, has announced a series of changes taking effect today and rolling out through the spring and summer.

The changes include lowering prices, streamlining the ordering process for libraries, and redesigning BOT's web site, logo, and packaging.

Changes detailed
Two new standing order plans—Library Select and Smart Ship—offering three different ordering options among five new category imprints: Essentials, African American, Christian Interest, History & Biography, and Women’s Fiction & Romance.

Titles to be released in May and onward will cost $100 or less, making for a *$60 average list price after discount.

The web site offers a new logo and updated browsing ability.

Redesigned CD packaging will feature original book jacket art and will specify the genre on the spine.

*[This article has been amended to reflect the following correction: the average list price after discount is $60, not $75.]
