Book News: Books Triumph at Academy Awards

- No Country for Old Men wins top honors
- Ludlum’s Bourne scores three
- YA lit represented by The Golden Compass
Films based on popular books cleaned up at the Academy Awards February 24. The Coen Brothers
adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s No Country for Old Men scored four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, while Daniel Day-Lewis took gold as Best Actor in There Will Be Blood. Based on Upton Sinclair’s Oil, Blood also won for Cinematography.
Thrillers also were rewarded, with Hollywood’s take on Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Ultimatum snagging prizes for film editing, sound editing, and sound mixing.
YA’s also saw gold with the adaptation of Philip Pullman’s The Golden Compass taking the Visual Effects prize.
Atonement, based on Ian McEwan’s novel of the same name, won for Original Score.
