Join Library Journal in Atlanta, Georgia, for its seventh, free Design Institute on April 30th, a one-day think tank on library buildings and design, this time in partnership with the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System. The educational seminar will bring together leading architects, librarians, and vendors to address the challenges and opportunities of building anew and renovating or retrofitting existing buildings. The day will provide an abundance of information on green design practices and cost saving tactics as well as focus on designing specific spaces (technology centers, work/study spaces, teen centers, etc.). We will also take a close look at the future of library design in the age of downloadable books.
Be sure to take advantage of the opportunity to get one-on-one attention from a participating architectural firm. Upon registering, attendees are asked to submit their library’s “design challenge” to be considered by LJ to be featured in one of our six breakout sessions. Your challenge can relate to a new building, a redesign of a specific space for technology, teens, etc., or a full-scale renovation or retrofit. Any and all challenges will be considered! |

*BREAKOUT SESSIONS
Each session, led by sponsoring architects, will focus on a pre-selected, real-life challenge submitted in advance by attendees and chosen by LJ. To get the most out of the afternoon breakout sessions and have your library receive expert advice and detailed attention by a leading architect, you must submit a description of your library's "challenge" to LJThinkTank@reedbusiness.com.
Submission guidelines (DEADLINE TO SUBMIT: March 30, 2010) :
Double-spaced word document (maximum 200 words). Please describe either the larger design problem you are tackling with your new building, renovation, or addition, or a particular aspect of it. Your problems do not need to have a specific "green" component, but the architects will incorporate green solutions during their presentations.
Supporting documents to help us best visualize the space and challenges described above. These could include photos (2-3 is fine, and can be quick snap-shot digital images), plans, sketches, etc. These items are not needed to be considered but may be asked of you if your library gets selected.
