ProQuest’s Serials Solutions unit has cut a deal to provide “the first ERAMS-based LibGuides integration” through a partnership with LibGuides maker Springshare, Inc.The result will enable “common subscribers to create LibGuides A-to-Z lists powered by the authoritative e-resources data of Serials Solutions KnowledgeWorks Knowledgebase,” the vendor said. Springshare already uses the KnowlegeWorks XML API to incorporate authoritative eresource information into LibGuides so that librarians can share their resource data through a Web 2.0 user interface. As part of the process, the two vendors formed a partnership with a handful of academic facilities, including SUNY–Westchester Community College; Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI; Palm Beach Atlantic University, FL; and Mississippi State University, which beta tested the integration of KnowledgeWorks into LibGuides. Serials Solutions said that the minimum requirement to enable this feature is subscriptions to LibGuides and either its own 360 or Summon service, which include the KnowledgeWorks knowledgebase. There are no additional costs.

Ex Libris January 14 announced the launch of Primo Central for beta testing at 14 partner institutions. Primo Central is a centralized index consisting of data harvested from primary and secondary publishers and aggregators. “With Primo Central,” the vendor said, “users simultaneously search locally managed collections and global e-content and receive search results that are blended into a single relevance-ranked list. Libraries can tailor the relevance ranking to ensure appropriate emphasis on their local collections.” Ex Libris provides Primo Central as a service, in a cloud computing environment.

ProQuest has acquired the London School of Economics’ classic International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS). Established in 1951, IBSS is the foremost abstracting and indexing database for social science and interdisciplinary research, currently holding more than 2.5 million bibliographic references to journal articles as well as to books, reviews, and chapters. IBSS also expands by more than 120,000 new additions each year. ProQuest already has a well-established distribution relationship with IBSS. IBSS offers broad coverage of international material, with records in more than 100 languages from as many countries. As part of ProQuest, IBSS will continue its aggressive growth and expand full-text links, making it even more efficient for researchers. Further, as ProQuest migrates its content to a groundbreaking, unified platform, IBSS will be cross-searchable with the breadth of the library’s ProQuest content.
