Brenda Johnson has been named Ruth Lilly Dean of the Indiana University Libraries. Johnson currently serves as University Librarian at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she oversaw a planned $62 million library addition and renovation, and formerly served as interim co-university librarian of the University of Michigan Libraries.

The U.S. Senate has confirmed David S. Ferriero as Archivist of the United States at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Ferriero was nominated by President Obama in July. Ferriero, a 1974 graduate of the Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science, will become the tenth archivist since NARA was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. Previously, Ferriero served as the Andrew W. Mellon Director of the New York Public Libraries.

Jean Song is the new Research and Informatics Coordinator for the Health Sciences Libraries at the University Library, University of Michigan. Song received her MLS from the University of Michigan's School of Information in 1997 and has held a variety of professional positions within the Health Sciences Libraries at the University of Michigan Library, most recently as Bioinformationist.

Lorelei Harris has accepted the position of Liaison Librarian, Health Sciences Libraries, University of Michigan. Harris received an M.L.I.S. degree from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, in 2007, and most recently held a librarian position with the University of Lethbridge Library, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.

Brian Vivier has accepted the position of Coordinator of Public Services in the Asia Library at the University of Michigan Library, selecting Western language materials on East Asia. Vivier comes to Michigan from the East Asia Library at Yale where he served as a special projects supervisor. He has a Ph.D. degree in Chinese history from Yale University and will receive a MLS degree from Southern Connecticut State University this year.
