At the recent 2009 Internet Librarian conference in Monterey, CA, mobile library services provider Mosio debuted a new service called MobileMicro. But, though the promo was set up for the conference, the idea translates readily to branch and academic library applications. The service is relatively simple, allowing libraries to post basic information and links in a mobile-optimized format free of concerns about ongoing compatibility with mobile devices and maintenance. “There is pressure to be relevant to the rapidly growing population of mobile information seekers, but the development and maintenance of mobile apps is too time-intensive and cost-prohibitive for many organizations,” said Noel Chandler, Mosio CEO and cofounder. To see the test site, head to mos.io/il2009, or text INTLIB to 66746. The beta MobileMicro service is slated to launch by the end of 2009.
