- Challenge to build new main after flood
Robert Pasicznyuk, associate director at Douglas County Libraries, Castle Rock, CO, is expected to be the new director of the Cedar Rapids Public Library (CRPL), IA, whose main downtown library was devastated by flooding in June 2008 and whose management team won LJ's 2009 Librarian of the Year award for its response to the disaster.
Pasicznyuk, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, was chosen yesterday by the board of trustees; a contract remains to be negotiated. The last director in Cedar Rapids was Lori Barkema, who left in April 2008; Tamara Glise has served since as the interim director.
According to the newspaper, Pasicznyuk led Douglas County’s move to self-check, which helped drive enormous circulation growth. In Cedar Rapids, he’ll have to marshal funds (including from FEMA and the state) for a new main library.
