The Political Winners (and Sinners) of the Year
Tell us about your greatest defenders and worst offenders.
-- Library Journal, 7/7/2009 9:22:00 AM
Take the political professionally and tell LJ about the political issues that have affected your library this year, and the people who launched preemptive strikes to ensure the library will thrive, helped save it from the onslaught of the bad economy, or threw a monkey wrench into the works—whether the stories were local, statewide, or national, we want to hear about them and how they impacted libraries in your areas.
Winners may have helped restore support in the face of a threatened budget cut, beaten back censorship of a challenged book, stayed the course on service to immigrants in their native languages, and more. Sinners may have done just the opposite, chipping away at library support and intellectual freedoms or otherwise harming the library in meeting its mission.
We want to hear about both the Winners and the Sinners in your area. Please send nominations, including a description of the political issue and the actions taken by the key individual or group that either helped or hindered libraries, by August 5 to Rebecca Miller via email at miller@reedbusiness.com or by post to
Library Journal
360 Park Avenue South
New York, NY 10010
or by FAX at 646-746-6734.
Deadline is August 5.
