Starred Reviews: May 2009

By Jessica Roy and Heather McCormack -- Library Journal, 05/12/2009

May is going by in a blur for us here at 360 Park Avenue South, what with all the preparations for BookExpoAmerica and the revamping of our book review format (see the June 1 issue or preview the new look in Xpress Reviews). Still, we made time for starring 76 titles. Self-help made an especially strong showing with no fewer than four standouts. The mystery Short Takes showcased excellent debuts and series closers by the likes of Tarquin Hall and Donald Westlake. Biography fiends will rejoice with works on Marilyn Monroe, Gabriel García Márquez, Ted Kennedy, and Anne Frank. Starting in June, Starred Reviews will run twice a month and feature prepub mini reviews. Don't miss out! And don't forget to pair Starred Reviews with Prepub Exploded for your selection convenience.—Heather McCormack
