InfoTech: Springer Debuts AuthorMapper.com Science Research Site

Mike Rogers -- Library Journal, 1/26/2009 12:55:00 PM

  • Free analytical tool
  • Generates a variety of analyses
  • Advanced search for complex queries

Springer Science+Business Media January 26 at the ALA Midwinter Meeting announced the creation of AuthorMapper.com, which the company describes as “a free analytical online tool for discerning trends, patterns, and subject experts within scientific research.” The site searches more than three million articles, generating an assortment of analyses including “an interactive Google map of the results, keyword tag clouds, and ‘Top 5’ bar charts for various important metrics.” An advanced search feature lets users apply complex queries using keyword, discipline, institution, journal, and author. Springer said that search results can be refined to identify scientific trends through timeline graphs and bar charts of top stats, making it easier for users to see research patterns in the literature and helping them to better understand the context of their research.
