The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) said this week it will award 95 scholarships worth over $50,000 in value to support participation in 14th National Conference, March 12-15, in Seattle, WA. In all, 58 scholarships will be given in five categories—eight of which are sponsored by OCLC. Each award will include registration (a $325 value), and a $250 stipend to attend the conference.

To qualify, scholarship applicants must be:

  • ACRL members with five or fewer years of post-MLS professional library experience
  • Currently employed in a library, with preference given to applicants employed in an academic or research library
  • Recommended by the their dean or director

To apply, applicants must complete the online Librarian Scholarship Application. The application includes a brief employment history, as well as a 300-word description of how attendance at the ACRL National Conference will support their long-term goals. The application deadline is December 5, 2008. An award committee consisting of members of ACRL members will alert winners by January, 30, 2009.

Applicants, ACRL officials, said should not register for the ACRL 14th National Conference until notified of their status to avoid the need for refunds. The discounted early-bird registration rate will be extended for all scholarship applicants until February 6, 2009, for those that may not receive a scholarship but still want to attend. For questions, contact Tory Ondrla, ACRL Conference supervisor at tondrla@ala.org.
