ARL Announces Board of Directors 2008-09

Thomas C. Leonard, university librarian and a professor in the Graduate School of Journalism, University of California, Berkeley, began his one-year term as president of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) on October 16, 2008, during the ARL Membership Meeting held in Arlington, VA. Leonard Marianne Gaunt, university librarian, Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, will continue to serve as a member of the ARL Board of Directors and Executive Committee as past president.
In addition to Leonard’s appointment, the ARL membership ratified the Board of Directors election of Brinley Franklin, vice provost, University Libraries, University of Connecticut, as ARL VP/president-elect. Three new Board members were also elected: Colleen Cook, dean of university libraries, holder of the Sterling C. Evans Chair in Librarianship, Texas A&M University; James Mullins, dean of libraries, Purdue University; and Sandra G. Yee, library dean, Wayne State University.
