Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 10/14/2008 11:21:00 AM

  • Goal is to offer 10,000 ebook titles in 24 months
  • Program includes imprints Scarecrow, AltaMira Press, and Lexington Books
  • Partnering with NetLibrary and Amazon’s Kindle

Rowman and Littlefield October 10 announced the launch of an ambitious program to provide “all of its frontlist and selected backlist” titles as ebooks, with the ultimate goal of having a stable of 10,000 electronic titles available for sale in 24 months. The program includes Rowman & Littlefield’s sister imprints, Scarecrow Press, AltaMira Press, and Lexington Books. “This initiative will make our current offerings and deep backlists available to scholars and students around the world,” Jed Lyons, Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group president and CEO said announcing the plan. On the distribution end, the publisher has partnered with NetLibrary and Amazon to make its ebook titles available on the Kindle. The publisher asserts that “recent changes in the library community, e-commerce, online security, and hand-held electronic readers have greatly increased the demand for electronic content.”
