Redesign for Credo Reference
Edited by Josh Hadro -- Library Journal, 10/1/2008
Credo Reference, the electronic resource aggregator, has significantly updated the user interface of its reference platform. The improvements are “optimized to address different types of reference questions,” the company said, and include faceted browsing, an enhanced visualization tool dubbe
d Concept Map, and a new feature called Related Resources. With this last cross-referencing feature, “researchers will now be able to click directly from a Credo entry to a related topic, with no extra typing required,” said Gloria Rohmann, New York University digital access librarian.
Following the trend toward simplified and streamlined interfaces seen in redesigns by other resource providers like EBSCOhost and Facts On File, the new Credo interface gives users diverse means of access to its reference content, including visual media for additional modes of learning. According to the company, users can “explore titles by heading, person, place, image, audio, or video.” Moreover, the interface offers multilingual access in English, Chinese, French, Polish, Spanish, and Urdu, with more languages on the way. John G. Dove, Credo president, said of the redesign, “Our intention is to save time for learners, which is what reference is all about.”
