Copyright Evidence Registry Debuts
By Lynn Blumenstein -- Library Journal, 9/15/2008
OCLC is offering libraries a new service, based on the WorldCat model, that encourages libraries and other organizations to “discover, create and share copyright evidence” through a collaboratively created and maintained database. The Copyright Evidence Registry was launched July 1, with a six-month pilot to test its concept and functionality.
OCLC eventually will add a feature enabling pilot libraries “to create and run automated copyright rules conforming to standards they define for determining copyright status.” The rules will help libraries analyze the information available in the Copyright Evidence Registry and form their own conclusions about copyright status.
