Book News: Thurber Prize Names Three Contenders

- $5000 annual award will be presented at New York’s Algonquin Hotel October 6
- Robert Kaplow, Christopher Buckley, and Firoozeh Dumas serving as judges
Thurber House August 19 named the trio of writers vying for its annual Thurber Prize for American Humor. They are
- Larry Doyle, I Love You, Beth Cooper (Ecco: HarperCollins)
- Patricia Marx, Him Her Him Again The End of Him (Scribner)
- Simon Rich, Ant Farm (Random)
The $5000 annual award will be presented during an October 6 ceremony at New York’s Algonquin Hotel,
once home to Thurber. Robert Kaplow, a judge for this year’s prize and a former finalist for his novel Me and Orson Welles, will serve as the evening’s emcee. Other judges are Christopher Buckley, who won the 2004 Thurber Prize for No Way to Treat a First Lady, and Firoozeh Dumas, who was a finalist in 2005 for her memoir, Funny in Farsi.
