- $2 million found in budget
- Four-month closure reversed
The New Jersey Knowledge Initiative (NJKI), temporarily closed this year, has been revitalized with the inclusion of $2 million in the FY09 state budget. Small business owners and others once again will be able to access business databases. NJKI was featured in a profile of Library Journal's 2008 Librarian of the Year, NJ State Librarian Norma Blake
Last year, the FY08 budget provided only $2 million to continue the initiative, $1 million less than needed to maintain the program, so it was closed March through June. Launched in 2005, the New Jersey State Library’s state-funded NJKI is available to library card holders through their local library web site or through the central web site.
