CORE Initiative from NISO

NISO, the National Information Standards Organization, announced on June 11 a new initiative known as CORE, or Cost of Resource Exchange. This new endeavor aims to use “defined XML data schemas” to streamline and “facilitate the exchange of cost, fund, vendor, and invoice information between Integrated Library Systems (ILS), Business Systems, Electronic Resource Management Systems (ERMS), and other interested parties.” Patricia Brennan, of Thomson Reuters, added, “with real-time lookups and cost-per-click and other cost-related reports in the RMS, users will be able to avoid manually entering the same data in two different systems.” NISO is currently soliciting members for the CORE initiative working group and hopes to complete a draft standard by December 1.
