EBSCO Shibboleth in Germany

By Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 6/15/2008

EBSCO Publishing is now offering its Shibboleth authentication service to customers in Germany. EBSCO said it worked with the German Research Network (DFN) “to enable universities to access EBSCOhost research databases through Shibboleth authentication.... German institutions are now able to use Shibboleth via DFN-AAI (authentication authorizing infrastructure).”

The vendor explained that the standards-based open source software provides SingleSignOn (SSO) for the web within organizations. Sites using Shibboleth can make authorization access decisions regulating individual access to their protected online resources. EBSCO began supporting Shibboleth in 2004, and library administrators can enable it through the EBSCOadmin module of EBSCOhost.
