Book News: Webcast Tackles Large Print Issues

  • Webcast brings 330 registrants and 75 wide-ranging questions
  • Weeding, shelving, and enticing younger audience addressed

LJ’s Best Practices in Large Print webcast clearly proved that there is far more to the subject than “do you have large print or not.” The April 29 event, which was sponsored by Thorndike Press, drew over 300 registrants and received roughly 75 questions, about 15 of which were addressed during the Q&A segment at the webcast’s conclusion. The questions posed run a wide gamut, including patron complaints about the weight of books to why do large print titles go out of print so quickly, to criteria used for weeding large print to where to shelve them (separately or interfiled with main collection). There also were tips on enticing YA and children to use large print and getting funding for large print collections. You can still listen to the full webcast just by registering.
