RWA®: The Place for Romance

By Kristin Ramsdell -- Library Journal, 4/15/2008

The City by the Bay is home to the Romance Writers of America® (RWA®) 28th Annual National Conference, to be headquartered at the San Francisco Marriott from July 30 to August 2. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, is Librarians' Day, with presentations and events specifically targeted to our profession, along with a special gift from LJ. The event costs $25 and includes breakfast (sponsored by William Morrow) and a luncheon chat with best-selling author Stephanie Laurens (Where the Heart Leads, Morrow). The "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing starts at 5:30 p.m. and rounds out this always fabulous day. Attendance is limited; download the 2008 Librarians' Day registration form at www.RWAregistration.notlong.com. View the 2008 Librarians' Day schedule at www.librariansday.notlong.com.

RWA® Librarian of the Year

Susan Gibberman of the Schaumburg Township District Library, IL, has been selected as the 2008 Librarian of the Year by RWA®. She will be honored at this summer's conference in San Francisco.

Romance Scholar Chosen

Sarah S.G. Frantz, assistant professor of literature at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, has been selected as this year's RWA® Academic Research Grant recipient for her work exploring the historical foundations and emotional power of "the rare tears of a strong man" in today's romance fiction. This is the fourth year of the grant program, which is now open to international scholars as well. For more information, go to RWA®'s web site at www.rwanational.org.
