Library 2.0 Gang Podcast: Regular Contributors and Guests

Apart from the odd diversion into the live music industry, Richard Wallis has a 35-year plus career in the computer information industry, the last 18 at a leading UK library technology company, Talis.
His professional experience, coupled with his passion for, and involvement with, new and emerging technology trends, gives him a unique perspective on the issues challenging librarians and information professionals today. Richard was in at the birth of several major system developments, as architect, researcher, and technical lead.
Now, as Technology Evangelist at Talis, he is at the forefront in promoting, explaining, and applying new and emerging web and semantic web technologies in the library and information domain. Richard is a well-known speaker at conferences and events, providing entertaining and informative insights in to Web 2.0, the semantic web and their influence upon real world situations. He is also an active blogger on Panlibus and a regular podcaster in the Talking with Talis series.
John Blyberg (B.A. English, University of Maine, 1998) is currently the Head of Technology and Digital Initiatives at Darien Library in Connecticut. He was formerly the System Administrator and Lead Developer for the Ann Arbor District Library in Michigan. Prior to working in libraries, John was the IT manager for the North American office of the British car company Lotus Engineering.
At AADL, John was responsible for rebuilding the IT infrastructure and numerous software development products, such as a custom session management system, RFID circulation client, WiFi registration system, and point-of-sale (POS) software. He is most well-known for his work on AADL’s award-winning website and social OPAC (SOPAC).
In March 2006, John was named a Mover & Shaker by Library Journal.
In September 2006, John took First Prize in the Talis Mashing-up the Library competition.

Char Booth is a Reference and Instruction Librarian at Ohio University’s Alden Library, where she is also subject specialist for several schools in the Scripps College of Communication.
A 2007 ALA Emerging Leader and 2008 Library Journal Mover and Shaker, Char blogs about library technology and media/information literacy at infomational. Char is in the process of completing a master’s in instructional technology, and is an advocate of free and open source enhancements to library services and sustainability.

Nicole C. Engard received her MLIS from Drexel University in 2007. Having worked in libraries for over seven years, she has recently accepted the position of Open Source Evangelist at LibLime.
Starting in web development and moving on to working with metadata and cataloging, Nicole has worked with people in all areas of the library. She can be found at conferences around the world presenting on open source and Web 2.0 topics.
Nicole is best known for her blog, What I Learned Today…, where she writes about technology issues for libraries and her work developing a 2.0 friendly intranet at Jenkins Law Library in Philadelphia.
In 2007 she was named one of Library Journal’s Movers & Shakers and has published several articles on technology and libraries. In her current position with LibLime, Nicole is responsible for educating librarians both about what open source software is and the many options available to libraries. Her passion for talking to and educating librarians makes this role a perfect fit for her.

Carl Grant is a librarian who has worked in libraries, or companies automating libraries, for the over 30 years. He has held executive positions at the major library automation firms in the North American market (including Ex Libris, Innovative, and companies that are now part of SIRSI/Dynix), either as a Vice President or President.
In 2007, Carl founded CARE Affiliates, Inc., a company specializing in open source software for libraries and information centers that provides consulting, selection, implementation, maintenance, support, and development services for selected open source solutions. As Programme Manager, Data Services, Rob has been working for Talis since 2004, focusing on the large databases that Talis has been involved with for over 30 years, Talis Base best known amongst them. He is actively involved in developing new techniques and technologies to make traditional library data work harder, including representing bibliographic data in RDF.
Rob also has a keen interest in intellectual property law, helping Talis with its work on the Open Data Commons licenses. Prior to working at Talis Rob was involved in the successful Internet bank Egg and with other award-winning financial services sites. Rob holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Hull.

Aaron Swartz is Tech Lead for the Open Library project. Before that, he was the co-founder of Reddit.com, Metadata Advisor to Creative Commons, and co-author of the RSS 1.0 specification. He currently lives in San Francisco.
